Privacy policy

SplitWeb collects nothing about you. It has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting of its own and no server to send anything to. Everything it stores stays on your Mac. The rest of this page is the detail behind that sentence.

Applies to SplitWeb for macOS, distributed through the Mac App Store. Last updated 15 August 2026.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no sign-up, no account and no profile. The app contains no analytics SDK, no telemetry and no advertising code, and it makes no network requests of its own — the only network traffic it generates is the pages you choose to open, fetched directly from those sites by the system web engine.

We do not operate a server for SplitWeb, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent even in principle.

What the app stores on your Mac

All of this is local. None of it leaves your machine, and we have no way to read it.

  • Your board. A file at ~/Library/Application Support/SplitWeb/session.json holding the pane layout, the URL in each pane, each pane's crop region and zoom, and your proxy host and port. This is what lets the app restore your board when you reopen it.
  • Website data. Cookies, logins, local storage and caches for the sites you open, kept by WebKit inside the app's own sandboxed container — the same kind of data a browser keeps, and the reason your dashboards stay signed in between launches.
  • One preference. A number recording which version of the first-run walkthrough you have seen, so it isn't shown again.

Proxy settings store only the type, host and port. SplitWeb has no field for a proxy username or password and does not store credentials of any kind.

What the sites you open can see

Each pane is a real web view loading a real page, so the sites you visit see you exactly as they would in a browser: your IP address, your request headers, and any cookies you already have with them. That relationship is between you and those sites, and their privacy policies apply to it — not this one. We are not involved in it and receive nothing from it.

If you turn on the per-pane proxy, that pane's traffic goes through the proxy server you configured. That server is yours; we neither operate nor recommend any particular one, and we have no visibility into it.

Purchases

SplitWeb is sold only through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the transaction, and we never see your payment details, address or Apple Account. Apple provides developers with aggregated sales reporting that does not identify individual buyers.

If you have chosen to share analytics with developers in your macOS settings, Apple may include this app in the aggregated crash and usage reports it makes available to us. That is Apple's mechanism, controlled by you in System Settings, and it is not collected by the app.

Deleting your data

Because nothing is held remotely, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf. To remove everything from your Mac, delete the app along with ~/Library/Application Support/SplitWeb/ and the app's container in ~/Library/Containers/, which is where the website data lives.

Children

SplitWeb is a general-purpose utility and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change with it.
